Well, the fine weather and seas have given way to give a commonly heard of introduction to NZ. What started as a beautiful early morning, sailing gracefully, by late morning we found ourselves in the midst of a mild belting.
Winds at 30 knots, gusting somewhere else. White froth all around us. Seas tossing us. Can't quite head around the Cape as, we wish to, because seas would be beam on. But we keep going.
In the midst of this, lunch is prepared - wraps with fresh avocado, Jackie's home grown tomatoes and cucumbers, ham, cheese and red capsicum. Quite a job to roll all that in the wrap without breaking it. But we managed in these seas. Dessert of dark chocolate KitKat (particularly enjoyed by Bill) and the last of Judy B's beautiful short bread biscuits puts paid to the tempest.
We are definitely nearly there. A lot of VHF traffic, but surprisingly we're are yet to see another vessel. The haze ahead gradually revealed the long mountain range from ahead to way down south. We are rounding Cape Farewell and expecting, late tonight, to make the final turn south around Farewell Spit light house into calmness and serenity.
We will slow down overnight, if possible, to arrive in Nelson in the morning.
