As I said in my update yesterday (31/3), Rusalka and crew weathered the worst of the low and front by heaving to for all of Sunday night and part of Monday.

Days 5&6 were fairly non-eventful, but now the winds are gradually increasing as Rusalka heads further north-west, trying to stay out of the way of the brewing storm.

Rusalka is still enjoying light winds and low seas, but a big low pressure weather system is on its way. MetBob has advised a route to avoid the worst by sailing in a big arc to north of Lord Howe Island.

The weather has been benign for the first 2 days of the voyage. Light winds (10kts) and calm seas (0.5 – 1m) has been a great way to settle into watch-keeping and sailing the boat.

Yesterday Boris and Roisin joined Rusalka and began settling in and going through the orientation process.

We’ve been in Nelson for a week now, waiting for crew and a weather window. But that doesn’t mean we’ve been idle!

Whew, I finally have a few minutes to restart the blog! Alex and I flew into Christchurch on Wed., a week and a half ago, and immediately began preparations for departure.
