We dropped anchor in Bryans Corner at 11:20pm on Monday night and promptly celebrated with a quick whisky before dropping into our beds.
This morning we were up early and sailed down through Mercury Passage. We passed Irish Mist who are heading north to the big island. We also caught up with Ocean Child who are also returning from a summer in NZ. We transited Denison Canal with Ocean Child and then anchored in Sommers Bay for a last quiet night before heading back to Kettering tomorrow. Well, our trip is almost over and it is with mixed feeling that we look forward to returning to our homes.
I was very happy to have gotten over my seasickness after the first day or so, which made getting up in the middle of the night for watches a lot easier! The highlight of the passage for me was seeing a very bright shooting star and dolphins outlined by bioluminescence swimming alongside the boat (sadly no pictures). Anne took some brilliant pictures of sunrises and sunsets enroute. Here are a couple:
One crew member we haven’t mentioned so far is Trevor the Kiwi, who boarded in Nelson. While he was useless at watch keeping, at least he didn’t fall off his perch for the whole trip!
